Fund Raising & Sponsorship Hints & Tips

  1. Just Giving
Set up a fundraising page at justgiving
Instead of traipsing round your office and family asking people to give you cash, you simply create a fundraising page, email it out, and your supporters donate online.

  2. moo.com
    Publicise your fundraising page
Print some Moo cards with your page URL on the back and give them out to everyone you meet! Share your page on Facebook and on your blogs and websites with the justgiving widget or badges. Ask your company if they’ll link to your page from their website or intranet. Put a link in your email signature by either adding your page’s web address, or one of the justgiving 'sponsor me' badges, to your email signature.

  3. Ask everyone to sponsor you
Pass your sponsorship forms around to everyone you know or tell/email everyone about your fundraising page. Ask your closest friends and family to donate first. Having a couple of donations on the page should encourage other sponsors. People tend to match the amounts already listed on the page, so if they’re generous ones, all the better!

  4. Tick the Gift Box
Encourage your sponsors to tick the Gift Aid box
If your sponsors are British tax payers and they tick the Gift Aid box we get an extra 28p for every £1 donated and at no extra cost to you or your sponsor.

  5. Tell people why you are walking
If you have a special reason for joining the walk, do make sure you tell you sponsors and tell us here at the News. Let people know why you’re going to the trouble of raising money, and they’re much more likely to take the time to donate. Explain why the charities deserve their support.

  6. Collect your sponsorship money as you go along
When someone agrees to sponsor you, ask for their sponsorship money straight away. This save you time and means that you don’t have to chase them!

  7. Ask your employer to match your sponsorship total £ for £
This is the easiest way to double your fundraising.
Some people don’t like to ask others for sponsorship but prefer to make a personal donation instead. Donations will be gratefully received.
